Wichita State University Wind Ensemble at Baylor University

  • Jones Concert Hall, Glennis McCrary Music Building at Baylor University 110 Baylor Avenue Waco, TX, 76706 United States (map)

We are excited to announce that we will be premiering our new piece, “KHRONOS,” with the Wichita State University Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Timothy Shade this Spring! “KHRONOS” reflects on seven different facets of the human condition through the lens of time; butterflies from love, envy of “The Jones,” stagnation, and aging being a few of those themes. This piece features Da’Kneisha Nikoyle Blount as the soprano soloist, but also many of the instrumentalists in the ensemble as well.

The piece starts out with the woodwinds and has that characteristic wind ensemble sound. Then, moments of Afro-Cuban, Bolero and Jazz are woven throughout this aural tapestry, as if trying to seduce time to stay a little while longer. Later, body and mouth percussion are utilized during the second half before a brass chorale escorts the listener to their final destination. We then hear a nod to the first theme, but this time is different; a homegoing. “Time waits for no one.”
